Brinkerhoff Certification - for High Performance Learning Journeys®

Learn how to create High Performance Learning Journeys® in this innovative program

More than ever, organizations rely on the support of training to execute strategy and change. At the same time, most training as it is designed today is too event based and does not engage learners in a meaningful and effective performance improvement process. In this certification program designed and developed jointly with Robert Brinkerhoff, trainers, facilitators and instructional designers will get the tools to make training programs and create new and lasting behaviors for their participants.

Program Description:

This innovative program builds on Prof. Brinkerhoff’s previous work integrating performance improvement concepts, practical applications of the 70-20-10 concept, and fundamental learning theories into a unique learning experience for each participant. Key tasks and assignments are embedded into a seamless process that can transform and add value to more traditional group learning interventions, such as workshops and seminars. This High Performance Learning Journeys (HPLJ) approach has been proven to dramatically increase the impact of training on workplace performance.

The HPLJ certification program is highly hands-on and practical, giving you first-hand experience of using powerful tools and proven techniques that you will put into practice in your own working environment during the certification process.

Target group:

Instructional designers and other learning professionals wanting to design learning that drives sustained behavioral change, improves workplace performance and creates lasting results. You will join a cohort that includes instructional designers, facilitators, learning and development professionals/project managers, performance consultants, and others who wish to transform training.

Program description:

This training program contains practical solutions to assess, improve and build training programs to create performance change. During the program you will work with practical tools and templates that you will apply to improve your existing training curriculums.

The program creates a learning journey that consists of mandatory pre- and post-work, a two-day practice oriented group workshop, and an examination assignment, that successfully completed, will earn the certification.

Participants can proceed at their own pace, but the process is designed to span about 4-8 weeks, and will demand approximately 16 hours of individual learning assignments before and after the workshop.

The High Performance Learning Journey certification program was a great experience for me. The journey started with us identifying key benefits to us, picking a program that we would use to design through the journey, reading articles, participating in webinars and so many other assignments that we already felt well prepared when the 2 days of class-room session happened.

This resulted in the class-room sessions being highly practice oriented and the discussions being extremely rich and meaningful. The journey continued with us working on and submitting assignments, completing different activities and engaging in online discussion with our cohort members. There was great support from Edward our facilitator throughout the program in terms of encouraging comments, patient answering of questions and a great attitude. A great learning experience indeed!

Creating learning that sticks and that is directly related to better job performance is a daunting task. This ambitious challenge is what the Brinkerhoff Certification Program addresses in a very successful way with its High Performance Learning Journey. The great strength of the method that it takes its point of departure in the business need that the training intervention is to address and then on the basis of that defines the learning objectives.

I have used the method in relation to a sales training program that we have for all customer-facing employees at Nordea Bank with great results. In our Training Department we have adapted the performance map from the course to a pre-scope document for learning, and it makes a lot of sense in our communication with stakeholders. The thinking in the rest of the program is also used in all phases of the training development. A highly recommendable course.

I can say without question that having attended the Brinkerhoff HPLJ programme, it has made a huge difference to the way I work. The skills and techniques that I learnt on the programme, have transformed the way we now operate as a business. It genuinely made me completely rethink my approach to learning and development and how results can be achieved.

Completing the Brinkerhoff Certification and learning to use Promote has been a very useful and rewarding process. Our organization is using the design process and Promote to increase our ability to support coaching and collection of performance evidence that allows us to ensure that what we support people learning transfers into practice and achieves the desired results.

The Promote platform, and the design process helps to sharply focus the learning, align the practices that demonstrate use of the knowledge and skills taught, and achieve measurable results. Using Promote we can review the performers progress and outputs, give feedback, and support peer coaching and social learning.

This tool and the related design helps us provide our clients the type of meaningful and performance-based adult learning that helps their employees and organizations meet their goals.”
